Best reed diffuser Singapore How to use reed diffuser

Can you refill reed diffusers? (and How to)

Can you refill reed diffusers after using them?

The simple answer is, yes, you can. BUT there are a few things to note; the dos and don'ts. If you are not careful, the oil compounds may cause a chemical reaction and cause unwanted side effects.

Being said so, refilling a reed diffuser is not so difficult if you can prepare all the necessary stuff according to the guided steps.

1. Throw away the old reeds.

Once the reeds suck up the oil, they will not absorb any more oil no matter how much you clean them. It is also not good when the aroma that the old reeds absorbed is mixed with the new oils that you plan to put in. Buying new reeds wouldn't cost you that much!

*Please note that the reed sticks should be of good quality and natural for best scents performances. (This article will tell you why: "How to Make My Diffuser Last Longer?" ( )

2. Clean the inner part of the bottle thoroughly.

Wash the SHIORA reed diffuser bottle with dishwashing liquid and hot water, then let it dry completely. Wash more than once if you plan to use a new diffuser oil scent.

3. Put in the Base Oil.

Fill the clean and dry bottle with a base oil of around 1/2 to 3/4. There are several base oil that you can choose from:

  • Jojoba
  • Carrier oil

Carrier Oil includes several natural types of oils from plants and seeds. (Check out our blog article about: "What is a carrier oil and why is it important?")

4. Add in 30-50 essential oil drops.

Start with 30 drops and let it diffuse for a while. If the scent is not strong enough, increase the amount next time you make it! Check out available essential oils here.

**PLEASE NOTE that not all essential oils are recommended to be combined. Although there are many tips to DIY your diffuser oil aroma, certain scents are not suitable for children, pregnant women, or pets when combined. If you are mixing several essential oils, make sure to do enough research about the dos and don'ts.

Frequent Asked Question: Should I add in alcohol?

  • Alcohol is an optional ingredient to add in if you want to thin the oils and help the reeds absorb more diffuser oils. However, the percentage of alcohol and types of alcohol to use (drinking ones or rubbing ones) may offer different effects depending on the essential oils that you put in. For example, if the reed diffuser contains more than 70% isopropyl alcohol, it may cause drowsiness, similar to when you inhale acetone. (Read this to understand why: Are Reed Diffusers Safe? ( ) Therefore, the use of alcohol needs to come with a thorough instruction guide.

Reed diffusers are refillable but you have to be careful doing so in order to get the best experience out of the reed diffuser. You can also consider buying a new reed diffuser and perhaps try out a new experience such as hotel-like experience or the experience of smelling space
